pantry staple

This award winning ingredient has saved dinner time in our humble home (apartment) on more than one occasion over the past couple of weeks. This is the best product I have ever tasted from a can and makes the most delicious pinch-hit tomato sauce that I've ever tasted. Would you like a recipe? Well here you go.

Pinch-Hit
"Homemade" Tomato Sauce

Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

1TBS olive
1medium onion, diced (1/2 cup)
2cloves garlic, finely chopped
1can (28 oz) Muir Glen organic crushed tomatoes, undrained
1tablespoon chopped fresh basil
1/2teaspoon chopped fresh oregano leaves or 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1/4teaspoon coarse (kosher) salt
1/4teaspoon pepper

Directions

1.In 3-quart saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion, and garlic; cook about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender. Stir in remaining ingredients.
2.Heat to boiling. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 15 minutes.
3.Serve over cooked pasta as desired.
(If you really want to jazz things up...add 1/4 cup heavy cream to make a perfectly pink creamy tomato sauce)
