To feed my enthusiasm for Ms. Betty today, I thought that I'd post a recipe from this classic cookbook and what is more classic than the good ole' fashioned sugar cookie.
SUGAR COOKIES
Preheat oven to 425 degrees
Mix together thoroughly:
1/2 c. soft shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
Stir in:
1 T. milk or cream
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 1/4 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
Chill dough. Roll very thin and cut into desired shapes. Place on lightly greased baking sheet, and sprinkle with sugar. Bake until delicately brown, 5-7 minutes. Makes 2 1/2 dozen cookies
